Artistic Director’s Corner

Storm HS 1510 smallA bittersweet Artistic Director’s corner this month as I announce that I have submitted my letter of resignation to Bonnie Stiles, Board President, TheatreFIRST. It has been an amazing 8 years and I am extremely proud of the 15 shows and five seasons we produced during my tenure, but it is now time to turn my attention back to acting, directing and teaching. As I ponder this shift I also take pride in the fact that I was able to find us two different homes, which doesn’t happen very often to small theatres. Also I can’t help but reflect on the incredible diversity here at TheatreFIRST. I can think of no other theatre in the Bay Area that has had as much diversity both on stage and behind the scenes. And I see a lot of theatre. There is a great legacy here for the next Artistic Director to continue and build on. I will be remaining on through the closing of Stop Kiss on March 12th. Thank you to all of the TheatreFIRST diehards who have supported us throughout the years and have made this such a wonderful experience for me personally and professionally.

Michael

TheatreFIRST Once Again Leading the Way on the Diversity Issue

TheatreFIRST has been one of the few companies truly committed to diversity and Stop Kiss is no exception. In fact, it is one of the main reasons we chose the piece. With over half the cast comprised of actors of color we are extremely proud to remain at the forefront of this important issue in Bay Area theatre.
