Performers interested in musicals should prepare  32-bars of a song in any style, and a 1 minute monologue. Performers interested in plays exclusively should prepare two contrasting 1-minute monologues. Please remember we are excited to see YOU, not your video editing skills. Video shot on your phone is perfectly fine.

A Marriage

January 27- February 12, 2023

On a random, quiet evening, two men make the unlikely decision to fall in love. This comedic story chronicles their 40 year relationship- its highs and lows, newness and sameness- in an ever changing world. We are ultimately offered a unique perspective on a marriage, with all the laughter, sadness, joys, and challenges it provides. TheatreFIRST produces this world premiere after streaming their award-winning, pandemic-era, virtual production.

Character Breakdown:

Daniel/Actor Who Plays Daniel
A gay man, late twenties to forties. Daniel ages forty years during the play. African American.
Richard/Actor Who Plays Richard
Another gay man, slightly older than Daniel. Richard ages forty years during the play. White.
House Manager/Swing Actor
Transgender, gender non-binary, male identiying, or female identifying performer of any race, who plays all other characters in the play including:
House Manager
Jo: Female. Daniel’s mother. Older and conservative.
Perry: Male. A man older than Daniel and Richard. but not much. Attractive.
Dr. Nancy/Dr. Nance: Daniel and Richard’s couples’ counselor.
Steven: Male. Daniel’s nephew, early to mid-teens, who is initially gender-questioning. Very out and very proud. He appears again in his mid-twenties, and again, as an adult, at the end of the play.
Stage Manager: An offstage voice
Alexa: An AI, offstage voice

-Possible table read on Sunday November 20th and/or Monday November 21st, from 6-9pm

Other Important Info:
Pay: Actors will be paid $1989.40 for rehearsals and performances based off of 20 hours of rehearsals per week plus performances at an hourly wage of $20.30. TheatreFIRST also pays $20/hr to any performers who are invited for an in-person callback

In this exciting new thriller, a world-wide virus threatens healthy pregnancies and WMB (pronounced “womb”) clinics are created to provide a virus-free environment for those who can afford the expensive nine-month residency. WMB trainee Claudia faces her final evaluation as race, class, and political tensions reach a boiling point.
